Location & Info North China Coal Medical University is a prestigious government university recognized by WHO and one of the top universities of china in Hebei Province, China. Once the only medical university in China’s Coal Ministry, is located in the major industrial city, Tangshan, Hebei Province, only couple of hours drive from Beijing with the Yanshan Mountains on the north and the Bohai sea on the south. Originally named as North China Coal Medical College was founded in 1926 by a British Surgeon. In August of 1998, it was transformed into a university co-administered by the government of Hebei province as well as the Coal Ministry, and primarily administered by the former. After decades of expansion and development, it has now become to a multi-level, and multi-form educational and research institute. The university has 1912 faculty and stuff with 700 professors. The university recruits students from all over the country. There are 11,772 undergraduates, 1300 graduate students, and 10000 students receiving career-education. It is composed of the main campus, the Qinghuangdao extension campus, one adult education institute, and the autonomous college Ji-Tang Institute. It comprises 14 schools with 68 teaching and research sections. The university offers 28 programs and grants medical and science degrees to students. As China’s reform is deepening in the higher education system, and especially since the country joined WTO, the university has established inter-university cooperative relationships with medical universities and research institutions in many countries including the USA, Japan, Germany, Austria and Hungary. It has been accepting foreign students from Germany and Japan since 1991. Now it has 12 affiliated hospitals, 43 teaching and practicing hospitals with more than 10,000 in patients beds. It publishes a number of journals, including the Journal of Chinese Clinical Medicine, the Journal of North China Coal Medical University, the China Coal Industry Medicine, and the Chinese journal of Psychological Health.

Weather Enjoying a warm-temperate monsoon climate, the city is dry in spring, hot and rainy in summer, and chilly in winter. The average annual temperature is near 11 C(51.8 F), and its average yearly rainfall reaches 760 millimeters (30 inches).

Foreign Students Program: NCCMU offers course of MBBS for foreign students from all parts of the world, who can understand English. The medium of instruction is English. The program for foreign students started in Sep 2007. Currently 1 batch of students is studying. NCCMU has only Pakistani students.

Tuition Fee 19000 RMB (Approx US$ 2650) per year, Hostel Fee: 2200 RMB (Approx US$ 300) per year, per student, with four students sharing, 22000 RMB ( Approx US$ 3000) (first year only) Includes University registration fee, Chinese Ministry of Education fee, Food and other administrative charges).

Hostel: The University provides hostel to the international students. Two persons share a room, attached bathroom, color TV, telephone, bed with required amenities and furniture, free hot―drinking--- water heater, public laundry and kitchen, internet access. Students are required to pay the electricity and water they use.

Travel to Tangshan - The students who will be selected and thus have taken admission will have to prepare the following documents before applying for a visa in the Chinese embassy; Police verification certificate from the Chief of Police of his/her area. 3 colored recent passport size photographs. Blood tests for HIV, HBV and HCV from any authentic laboratory. Medical certificate of fitness from any government hospital. Valid passport After they are approved admission by the University, the students will be sent a JW-202 forms (an invitation by the University to get a visa in the Chinese Embassy) within one month. They will also be sent an official acceptance letter by the University. They have to take these 2 along with the above mentioned documents with them when they are visiting Chinese embassy for application of the visa. They will be provided with the visa within 3-5 days of time from the Embassy. After the visa is stamped, they must take one way ticket to Beijing. Then from Beijing airport, college bus will take students to Tangshan, a 2 hours drive on motorway.

Food in the city A separate dining room for Muslim students on the campus is available. Anyhow, in the city there are lot of different varieties available, cheap and clean and for Muslims.


Shopping in the city Although, not a big city, but it is an Olympic city for 2008 Olympics. It has vast shopping centers and every type of clothing and grocery is available cheap and with ease. It is also not far from Beijing, so one can feel easy to go to Beijing for a different shopping experience.
