Location & Info Xi'an Jiaotong University, located in age-old Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, and covering an area for over 181 hectares, is a key university directed by the Ministry of Education of China. It is one of the oldest universities in China with her predecessor Nanyang College founded in Shanghai in 1896. It was given the name Jiaotong University in 1921. On the decision of the State Council, the main body of university was moved to Xi'an in 1956 and was formally named the Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1959. In 1999,it became one of the 9 universities aimed at high academic level and international reputation by Chinese Government. In April 2000, Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics, Xi'an Medical University and Xi'an Jiaotong University were merged as the present Xi'an Jiaotong University. Xi'an Jiaotong University is a comprehensive university of natural science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, liberal arts and law, with engineering science as its main focus. At present, the university has 11,159 faculty members, including 3,247 full-time teachers consisting 266 doctoral supervisors, 646 professors and 977 associate professors. Among the 26,410 full-time students in this university, there are nearly 5,500 doctoral and master's students. It has more than 420 foreign students come from 23 countries such as the United States, Japan, Pakistan, Korea, and Belgium. Xian is one of the oldest cities in the world with a vivid and rich history and culture. It is not only the birthplace of the Chinese Nation, but also the birthplace of human civilization in Asia and the cultural center of prehistoric civilization. Over a period of more than 2000 years, Xian was the capital for eleven dynasties. Along with Rome and Constantinople, this city was a world leader in culture and trade and played a vital role in bridging the gap between east and west. As such, Xian has a wealth of historical sites and relics to visit and see and is a great place to introduce yourself to Chinese history.

Xian Jiaotong University among the 30 govt. approved universites and visa is easily issued by China Embassy in Pakistan. Students can sit in PMDC registeration exam after clearing their MBBS course in this university.

Foreign Students' Program: Currently 500-600 only Pakistani Students are studying in Xian Jiaotong University. It started in 2000-01. Course is English Medium and is recognized by PMDC Islamabad.

Winter is cold and dry with little rain and snow. Climate in Qinling Mountains varies with the altitude, the middle-altitude area temperate climate, and the high altitude area is hiemal climate. The annual average temperature is 13.3 ℃, the extreme highest temperature is 45.2 ℃, the extremely lowest temperature is - 20.6 ℃and annual average rainfall is 604.2 millimeters. Admission A student will have to spend at least 5 years for this program. An additional one-year preparatory study of Chinese Language, mathematics, and physics is also required. Every student must pass the State-required HSK band-3 (Chinese Proficiency Test) within the preparatory years. Eligible graduates will be awarded a degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery by the State Education Ministry. Applicants must be under the age of 30 years and in good health; With an excellent command over English Language; Have a capability of adjusting to life; Have the degree of preparatory or equivalent degree with good results; Obey the Chinese laws and university regulation during study period; Have a good financing support. Applicants should send written application to Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU). XJTU mail application forms and other documents to applicants. Applicants must send all documents (including application forms and all supporting documents) to XJTU before deadline. XJTU verifies the documents and informed the eligible students; Qualified applicants should reply with a confirmation letter in time and send the registration fee to XJTU; After receiving the confirmation letter and registration fee, XJTU will precede the formalities concerning the official admission of State Education Department and JW202 form for visa; XJTU will send the JW202 form, Admission Notice, and other necessary documents to the successful applicants. Hostel: Single room - 12600yuan/year, Double room - 8000yuan/year The International Students Building is situated on the medical campus. Each room is well furnished and equipped with air-conditioner, television, telephone, bedding, bathroom, central-heating and other necessary facilities. Usually, two students share one room. The Muslim dining hall and some of the language classrooms for international students are also located in the same building. Travel to Xian - The students who will be selected and thus have taken admission will have to prepare the following documents before applying for a visa in the Chinese embassy; Police verification certificate from the Chief of Police of his/her area. 3 colored recent passport size photographs. Blood tests for HIV, HBV and HCV from any authentic laboratory. Medical certificate of fitness from any government hospital. Valid passport After they are approved admission by the University, the students will be sent a JW-202 forms (an invitation by the University to get a visa in the Chinese Embassy) within one month. They will also be sent an official acceptance letter by the University. They have to take these 2 along with the above mentioned documents with them when they are visiting Chinese embassy for application of the visa. They will be provided with the visa within 3-5 days of time from the Embassy. After the visa is stamped, they must take one of the 2 routes. Isb to Beijing to Xian or Isb to Urumqi to Xian. This is all through plane. After landing on Xian airport, the University bus will be waiting to pick them up.

Food in the city - Xi'an cuisine has a good, hearty style that should never let you leave the table hungry. Noodles and dumplings are the staples of the local food and these are almost always filling and warming. Yangrou Paomo is a tasty Xi'an specialty that consists of a mutton soup served with wheat flour flat bread. The hard bread is broken up and added to the soup. Then the mixture is eaten along with pickled garlic cloves. It makes for a hearty, filling meal that is not very expensive. This Xi'an specialty can be found at several restaurants that have become famous for their delicious Yangrou paomo, as well as a small "mom and pop" restauarants throughout Xi'an. Xiguan Beef and Lamb Paomo Restaurant, Tongshengxiang Beef and Lamb Paomo Restaurant, and Chunfasheng Paomo Restaurant are all good places to go for this tasty meal. Yet another interesting culinary experience to be had in Xi'an is the Xi'an Dumpling Feast. This concept, introduced in 1984 by the Xi'an Dumpling Feast Restaurant on Jiefang Road, offers up to 108 different kinds of Chinese dumpling (Jiaozi). Also worth trying are the Defachang Restaurant and the Baiyunzhang Northwest Style Snack Restaurant. Some other Xi'an snacks and special dishes include: Sour Soup Dumplings and Guantang Steamed Baozi. Inside the campus, there is a separate kitchen for Pakistani students and care is taken to serve them Halal food pertinent to their needs.

Xian Chang'an Parkson: 38, Chang'an Zhong Lu. Supermarkets are numerous in Xian and are primarily distributed around universities and communities. However, there are some in the city center and the suburbs that are also easily accessible. The most famous include Vanguard, Ai Jia (IGA), Hao You Duo (Trust-Mart), Yi Chu Lian Hua(Lotus Supercenter), Ren Ren Le, etc.
